Compared with other genres in China, Chinese sci-fi movies are now still at a place where directors need to be really cautious and careful, but also persistent and resilient in every step of production. For the new generation, young directors need to understand that the keyword "science" always goes first and "fiction" comes second.

A sci-fi movie production is a thought experiment. Young directors need to take control and have a deep understanding of every bit of production to really make an excellent work.

As a friendly cultural ambassador between China and Malaysia, Chinese-Malaysian businessman Gu Runjin has been trying to connect the two countries in many ways over the past few decades. At the upcoming Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023, Gu will explore more opportunities for cultural exchanges.

"As a third-generation Chinese migrant in Malaysia, my fluent Chinese can be attributed to the mature Chinese language education here in Malaysia," Gu said.

"As part of the 10th year of the Belt and Road Initiative, I want to focus on Chinese language education here in Malaysia and pour more effort into this area and support cross-cultural exchanges for young people in the future."

A recent talk between well-known Chinese writers Yu Hua and Wang Anyi has triggered public interest, as the livestream of the conversation drew nearly 400,000 viewers in total.

Wang said that as a realist writer, she believes that literature needs to draw inspiration from society.

"I remain skeptical toward avant-garde literary narratives, as they are far from our commonsense world. Fictional narratives are a challenge for writers worldwide. And even though fictional, the essence of those stories needs to go back to a topic with commonsense, for example, people-to-people exchanges."
