The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on Wednesday have blasted  the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities on the Taiwan island have lost "reasoning" as they are pursuing "Taiwan independence," saying that the agency supports study into the suspension or partial suspension of tariff preferences given to products from Taiwan region under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).

"We support relevant authorities to study and take corresponding measures in accordance with relevant regulations in light of the investigation of trade barriers," Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Based on the 1992 Consensus, the mainland and the island signed the ECFA in 2010. Over the past decades, the mainland has earnestly implemented its commitment and ensured the implementation of the trade deal.

However, Since the DPP took the office on the island, they purposely hinder normal economic cooperation between the mainland and the island by acting in an even more outrageous way of revising rules and setting barriers. Their behaviors damage the interests of not only related industries and companies in the mainland and but also Taiwan consumers, and seriously hinder the implementation of the ECFA and violate relevant WTO rules, Chen added.

The DPP recognizes that ECFA benefits people in Taiwan and hopes that the agreement not to be terminated, while on other hand, they aim to "decouple" from the mainland by colluding with external forces and constantly hindering normal economic cooperation between the mainland and the island, Chen said.

This two-faced approach shows that DPP authorities have lost basic reason while seeking "Taiwan independence," he said.
