Recently, police officers in Chongming, Shanghai received a report from the Shenxiu Temple that the money in a donation box had been stolen. It turned out that the temple emptied the money from the box every ten days. This time, compared to before, the money in the box was less than half its usual amount despite a similar number of worshippers. The hinges on each donation box were loose, indicating clear signs of theft. After receiving the report, the Chongming police quickly launched an investigation and soon identified a suspect surnamed Qin.

The police promptly arrested Qin. After being taken into custody, Qin confessed to the crime of stealing the money from the donation box. According to the investigation, Qin had visited various temples and shrines in Chongming in mid-October to gather information. On the early morning of October 23, he entered the Shenxiu Temple by climbing over the wall and stole the money from nine donation boxes. Qin even tried to justify his actions by claiming that he didn't steal but borrowed the money, saying, "I asked the Bodhisattva if I could take the money from the donation box, and the Bodhisattva gave me an 'OK' gesture." In reality, according to the interpretation of Buddhist teachings, the gesture similar to "OK" made by the Bodhisattva has a specific meaning in Buddhist culture.

Currently, the suspect Qin is being detained by the Chongming police on theft charges. The case is still under further investigation.
