Recently, some foreign tourists were reported to have stolen tribute money in the Putuo Mountain scenic area in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang Province. In response, the local authority issued a statement on January 12, saying that after investigation, it was found that the group of foreign tourists was crew members from a shipyard, who were organized by the factory to visit the Putuo Mountain.
On January 11, the foreigners took some money as well as coins that were dropped by other tourists during the worship process. After receiving the report, police criticized the relevant individuals, ordered them to apologize and return the paper money and coins they took. The statement also emphasized the hope that netizens should not spread rumors.
According to previous reports, video footage at the scene showed the foreigners stealing money at the scenic area, which was confirmed by a local staff worker, with the amount of money stolen being uncertain.
