In response to the US’ discriminatory and politically motivated actions of recent years, Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng urged the US to remove obstacles hindering bilateral cultural exchanges. “We will handle each obstacle through negotiation,” said Xie, at a consular promotion event for safe travel to the US.

Xie made the remarks at a promotional event organized by the embassy on Saturday. During the event, a video and a guide on safe travel to the US were released.

Xie said that in the past three years, nearly 300 Chinese citizens have been unjustly harassed and deported by the US government, and more than 70 of them were students carrying valid legal documents. Even Chinese officials who were invited to the US for friendly visits have faced unwarranted harassment and interrogation.

Over the past decade, China has made significant progress and become one of the world’s safest countries, with a focus on enhancing safety measures. The country places a strong emphasis on the well-being of its citizens abroad and has established systems to ensure their safety, said Xie.

The US has been overstretching the concept of national security and, without any valid evidence, arbitrarily canceled Chinese students’ visas, banned them from entering the US and forcibly deported them. Such actions inflicted enormous damage on the persons concerned and obstructed people-to-people exchanges between China and the US, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said at a regular press briefing on April 8.

Ambassador Xie emphasized the importance of the “safe journey in the US” initiative for Chinese nationals in the US. He encouraged everyone to be proactive in spreading safety knowledge and practicing mutual assistance.

During the event, Xie unveiled a promotional brochure and a video on travel safety. The embassy will continue to support and assist Chinese citizens, ensuring their safety.
