In response to media questions regarding reports that, under the high pressure of tariffs, the EU is stepping up efforts to reach trade agreements with other regions, the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen recently emphasized "a further pivot to Asia," MOFCOM spokesperson He Yongqian said on Thursday that China and Europe are both advocates of economic globalization and trade liberalization, as well as staunch defenders and supporters of the WTO.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. China is willing to work with the EU to strengthen dialogue and communication, expand mutual opening-up, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and jointly maintain the multilateral trading system with the WTO as the core and rules as the basis, maintain the stability and smooth flow of the global industrial chain and supply chain, and inject more certainty and positive energy into the world economy with the independence and stability of China-EU economic and trade relations, the spokesperson said.
