Nvidia CEO visits Shanghai, stressing commitment to China market after 30-year growth

Jensen Huang, CEO of US chipmaker Nvidia, visited Shanghai on Friday after meeting senior Chinese officials in Beijing the previous day. Huang highlighted the importance of the China market, while stressing the company's commitment to it and vowing to serve it in the best way.

Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Huang in Shanghai, according to a release published on the official WeChat account of the Shanghai municipal government.

Gong said the city is accelerating its development into a globally influential socialist modern international metropolis with the focus on the "Five Centers." Shanghai has achieved rapid progress in integrated circuits and artificial intelligence (AI) - two strategic priority industries - establishing itself as China's leading hub in integrated circuits with the strongest technical capabilities, largest industrial scale, and most complete industrial chain.

Leading global tech firms like Nvidia are welcome to seize the opportunity offered by China's ultra-large market and Shanghai's high-level opening-up, to gather global resources and strengthen in-depth cooperation with local companies to build a better future for tech development. Shanghai is making efforts to establish a market-oriented, law-based and international business environment to help better and greater development of various enterprise, Gong said.

AI has immense development potential and countries should strengthen cooperation and sharing to advance common progress and global prosperity. The China market is critical for Nvidia, not only because of its vast scale but also because of quality clients and its sound industrial ecosystem, Huang said, according to the release.

Over the past 30 years, Nvidia's deep-rooted presence in the market has fueled its continuous growth. Abiding by the laws of every country, and upholding its commitment to the Chinese market, Nvidia remains dedicated to serving the Chinese market, Huang said.

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with Huang on Thursday, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the Xinhua News Agency reported. He, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China holds vast potential for investment and consumption, with industrial transformation and upgrading gaining pace. 

Huang expressed optimism about China's economic outlook and said Nvidia is committed to further deepening its presence in the Chinese market, with the aim of contributing positively to US-China economic and trade cooperation, per Xinhua.

Huang also met with Ren Hongbin, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. During the meeting, Huang said the company will serve the Chinese market unswervingly, and highlighted China's strengths in the consumer market, booming industrial ecology, and software prowess, according to a report by CCTV News on Thursday.
