The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office announced on Wednesday that nearly 6,000 reporting emails as of Tuesday had been received through its recently launched reporting platform targeting individuals involved in "Taiwan independence" activities.
The office launched an online platform on March 26 to solicit reports of malicious acts of "Taiwan independence" henchmen and accomplices persecuting Taiwan compatriots.
Speaking at a press conference, spokesperson Chen Binhua said the volume of reports reflected the deep public anger toward those undermining cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation and persecuting people in the island.
"The flood of reports underscores the public's outrage at the malicious actions of these 'Taiwan independence' enablers," Chen stated. "We will continue to adhere to the principles of factual verification and legal standards. Once reports are verified, those individuals will be held accountable and punished according to the law."
