EU: Europe Day 2025 jointly celebrated in Guangdong Province

The Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union organized a public event celebrating Europe Day, which was open to the civil society, with the participation of most consulates general of EU member states in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province on May 9.

On this occasion, the Consul General of Portugal Tomás Azevedo took part in a panel presenting the European Union - its history, institutions, and current affairs - and responded to questions from the audience.

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of EU-China relations. On the same occasion, the Delegation of the European Union to China hosted at its residence a reception to celebrate Europe Day in Beijing on May 6. 

Fifty years ago, in 1975, China and the European Economic Community - the predecessor of today's EU - established diplomatic relations, marking a pivotal moment in modern international diplomacy. Since then, exchange and dialogue between the two sides have become increasingly close, the integration of interests has deepened, benefitting the world.
