The US should abide by fair competition principle, cease politicizing economic and trade issues, and provide enterprises from all countries, including Chinese companies, a fair and non-discriminatory business environment, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on Thursday.

The comment came in response to a question over foreign media report saying that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is tightening rules for foreign firms listed on American stock markets on Wednesday, claiming that many Chinese firms in particular unduly benefited from having to make fewer regular disclosures to investors.

"China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," Lin stressed.
