When asked to comment on the crash of an Air India plane bound for London on Thursday shortly after takeoff from an airport in the western Indian state of Gujarat, which might have left more than 200 people dead, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Friday called the incident, which resulted in heavy causalities, "unfortunate."

Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended condolences to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Britain's King Charles III and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi respectively over the heavy casualties caused by the crash of an Air India flight, and on behalf of the Chinese government and people, conveyed deep condolences over the loss of lives, extended sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families, and wished the injured a swift recovery. Premier Li Qiang also sent a message of condolence to Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Lin noted.
