The third China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) is scheduled to be held in Beijing from July 16-20, attracting the participation of more than 650 companies from 75 countries and regions and international organizations, a Chinese official said on Tuesday.
"Various parties' participation has exceeded our expectations," Yu Jianlong, a vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), said at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office.
More than 65 percent of exhibitors are Global Fortune 500 companies or industry leaders, while overseas participants account for 35 percent of the total, according to the CCPIT.
Those from the US and the EU comprise 50 percent of all overseas participants. The number of US exhibitors has increased by 15 percent compared with last year, topping the list of overseas exhibitors, and 60 percent of these US exhibitors are Fortune Global 500 companies. US chip giant Nvidia will debut at the expo, setting up an exhibition, the data showed.
"Against the backdrop of a complex and turbulent international situation and economic globalization encountering headwinds, the gathering of so many friends from across the globe - particularly business leaders and entrepreneurs worldwide - at the CISCE is not only a vote of confidence in the expo itself but also a vote of confidence in China's economic development," Yu said.
"Since the first CISCE in 2023, Corning has been an active participant. This year marks Corning's third consecutive year at the CISCE, as well as Corning's 45th year in China. It's the first time all of Corning's business groups in China are joining together," US company Corning Inc, one of the world's leading innovators in materials science, told the Global Times on Tuesday.
Corning will showcase the latest achievements across its businesses since entering the market, as well as the innovations Corning has brought to the Chinese market, the company said.
"The active participation of overseas enterprises, especially those from the US, shows that the demand for supply chain globalization continues to grow despite unilateral and protectionist moves by the US government," He Weiwen, a senior fellow at the Center for China and Globalization, told the Global Times on Tuesday.
It also underscores China's critical role as a hub in the global supply chain, He said, noting that the expo serves as a crucial platform for global suppliers and vendors to connect with and integrate into China's extensive supply chain network, promoting greater inclusivity, strengthening resilience, and advancing sustainable growth.
Dimitri De Vreeze, CEO of Dsm-Firmenich, a global leader in science-backed health, nutrition and biosciences, said through participating in the CISCE, the company will showcase its innovations of more than 150 years of science in nutrition, health, fragrance and taste.
"Together, we connect the world for a shared future. Together, we bring progress to life for billions of people around the world," De Vreeze said, according to a video on the WeChat account of the CISCE.
In addition to the active participation of overseas enterprises, an exhibition area for innovation chains will be added to the CISCE, aimed at promoting the commercialization of technologies developed in laboratories and advancing the seamless integration between innovation and industrial chains, Li Xingqian, also a vice chairman of the CCPIT, said at the same conference on Tuesday.
From serving as a "world's factory" to enabling the world with innovations, China has consistently promoted the connectivity of markets and integration of industries and boosted innovation through various policies, Cao Heping, an economist at Peking University, told the Global Times on Tuesday.
Amid external challenges, China stimulates economic vitality with high-level opening-up, which is expected to offer fresh opportunities for companies from all countries, including the US, Cao said.
In response to a question about the views of foreign businesses, chambers of commerce and international organizations on prospects for cooperation with China in industrial and supply chains under the current situation, Yu said the "chain" in the CISCE is not about "decoupling" but about connecting the world and jointly creating future "chains."
"The expo shows not only the global business community's unwavering commitment to upholding the smooth operation of industrial and supply chains but also an industrial ecosystem where global supply chains are deeply integrated and enterprises worldwide thrive through mutual success," the official stressed.
As the world's first national-level exhibition focusing on supply chains, the expo is an internationally shared public product. First held in 2023, the expo has contributed to building more secure, stable, open and inclusive global industrial and supply chains, according to the CCPIT.
