French luxury brand Louis Vuitton recently reported a data breach affecting nearly 420,000 customers in Hong Kong, according to a Sunday report by a local newspaper.

According to Xianggang Wenweipo, Hong Kong's Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) said on Saturday that it received a notification from Louis Vuitton Hong Kong (LVHK) on July 17 regarding a data breach case. The office has launched an investigation in accordance with established procedures, including whether there was a delay in reporting the breach. No related complaints or inquiries have been received so far.

According to LVHK, its French headquarters detected suspicious activity in its computer system on June 13, 2025, and confirmed on July 2 that the incident had affected customers in Hong Kong, PCPD said. LVHK was notified the same day. Preliminary probe findings indicate that the personal data of approximately 419,000 Hong Kong customers was compromised, per the office.

LVVHK has not responded to Global Times' request for comment as of the press time.

The PCPD urged organizations to report any data breaches to the office as soon as possible, noting that timely reporting enables both the regulator and affected individuals to take appropriate and prompt action to mitigate potential harm. It also called on organizations to inform affected individuals of such incidents without delay.
