In response to a media question about EU's latest round of sanctions against Russia last Friday involving some Chinese-funded banks and five Chinese enterprises with the EU claiming these entities are related to Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized at a press conference on Monday that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions without basis in international law or authorization from the UN Security Council.

On the Ukraine crisis, China has been committed to promoting peace talks, has never provided lethal weapons to either side of the conflict, and strictly controls the export of dual-use items. Normal exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and EU enterprises, as well as between Chinese and Russian enterprises, should not be interfered with or affected, Guo said.

China urges the EU to stop harming the legitimate interests of Chinese enterprises without factual basis, and China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, Guo said.
