The China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Energy Cooperation Platform was launched in Beijing on Tuesday, according to CCTV News, one day after China announced at the SCO Tianjin Summit that it would establish such a platform to boost cooperation.
The head of China's National Energy Administration said that energy cooperation is an important part of regional practical cooperation. Since China took over the rotating presidency of the SCO in July last year, Chinese firms have signed, started, and put into operation more than 160 power and renewable energy projects in SCO countries, and more than 60 projects in the oil and gas fields, with a total amount of about 380 billion yuan ($53.2 billion), becoming a strong driving force for regional economic and social development, according to CCTV News.
Leveraging the role of the platform, China will deepen practical exchanges and cooperation with SCO members in the energy sector, expand clean energy collaboration, improve regional energy governance, and build a safe, green, and shared development framework, the official said, pledging to deliver more tangible results.
At the "SCO Plus" meeting in Tianjin on Monday, the Chinese side announced that it will establish three major platforms for China-SCO cooperation in energy, green industry, and the digital economy, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
