Chinese tech giant Huawei on Thursday held a product launch event in Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong Province, where it unveiled the Mate XTs Extraordinary Master, a tri-fold smartphone powered by the Kirin 9020 chip and HarmonyOS 5. This marks that Kirin chips reappeared at Huawei's launch event after four years, causing cheers from the audience, the Shanghai Securities News reported.

At the event, Richard Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei Consumer Business Group, revealed that the number of terminal devices equipped with HarmonyOS 5 has exceeded 14 million, according to Chinastarmarket.cn on Thursday.

Previously, Huawei revealed that its new Pura 80 handsets are powered by the Kirin 9020 system-on-a-chip, marking the first time in about five years that the US-sanctioned company has lifted the veil of secrecy behind its advanced smartphone processors, the South China Morning Post reported on August 19.

Meanwhile, Huawei's Ascend chips have also been making strides, even drawing attention from US authorities. In May, the US claimed that using Huawei's Ascend chips anywhere in the world violates US export controls. In response, China's commerce ministry on Thursday condemned the US for abusing export control measures targeting Huawei's chips, pledging to take resolute measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, according to Xinhua.

On August 7, Huawei announced the full open-source release of its Ascend chip software ecosystem, aiming to support users to explore its deep potential and undertake customized development independently, Xinhua reported at the time.
