China secured a steady summer grain harvest in 2025, with various types of grain operators across the country procuring more than 100 million tons of wheat, CCTV News reported on Sunday, citing official data.

According to the National Food and Strategic Reserve Administration, the summer grain peak-season procurement for 2025 is entering its final stage, with overall progress proceeding smoothly.

Luo Shouquan, head of the administration, explained that this year, wheat reached the market earlier than usual, and the peak-season procurement started about a week ahead of schedule.

Since procurement began, farmers have been actively selling their grains, mostly opting to sell immediately after harvesting. The pace of procurement has been faster than during the same period last year. To date, various grain operators have collectively procured 100.16 million tons of wheat, he said.

Relevant authorities have initiated the minimum purchase price policy in provinces such as Henan, Anhui, Hebei, Jiangsu and Shandong. The China Grain Reserves Corp, also known as Sinograin, has strictly implemented procurement policies and promptly increased the number of procurement warehouses. So far, 13 million tons of wheat have been procured under the minimum purchase price policy.

Supported by the minimum purchase price policy, grain processing, trade, and reserve enterprises have conducted orderly purchases and sales, and the administration will continue to monitor the progress of summer grain procurement, strengthen market monitoring, and make every effort to keep grain prices at reasonable levels, ensuring a successful conclusion to the summer grain peak-season procurement, Luo said.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on July 10 that the summer grain output in 2025 reached 149.74 million tons, down slightly by 0.1 percent compared with last year amid challenging weather conditions.

The slight decrease in summer grain output was minimal, with overall production remaining stable, said NBS official Wei Fenghua.

Severe drought affected major producing areas, including Henan and Shaanxi, creating some challenges. However, proactive irrigation efforts, including large-scale water diversion, have ensured effective watering of most farmland, Wei said.

China's stable and bumper summer grain harvest in 2025 will lay a solid foundation for overall annual grain production, providing strong support for coping with complex international challenges and promoting sustained economic growth, Wei added.

As China entered its primary flood season, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said on July 3 that it had initiated a 100-day campaign to boost yields, mitigate disasters and secure autumn grain production, which is pivotal to China's grain security.

To achieve the grain production goal of approximately 700 million tons this year, the ministry will deploy teams to guide field management for robust seedlings, disaster prevention and pest control.
