The Internet Society of China (ISC) on Monday voiced firm support for investigations launched by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Saturday into certain US semiconductor products and US trade measures targeting China's integrated circuit sector.

According to a notice released by the ministry, MOFCOM has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of certain analog chips from the US, as well as an anti-discrimination probe into US measures directed at China's integrated circuit industry.

"In recent years, the US government has overstretched the concept of 'national security' and abused export controls and unilateral restrictive measures," the Internet Society of China said in a statement published on its official WeChat account on Monday.

"Such unfair practices, which run counter to WTO rules and the established order of international trade, severely disrupt the stability of global industrial and supply chains and undermine the legitimate rights and interests of China's internet companies. We strongly oppose them," the statement added.

The association stressed that the healthy development of the internet industry relies on an open, fair and orderly market environment. It called on global industry players to work together, respect market principles and international rules, and promote shared prosperity and long-term development of the global technology sector.

"We encouraged member enterprises to step up independent innovation, deepen international cooperation, and jointly foster an open, stable and sound global semiconductor industrial ecosystem," the statement said.
