History is not to be tampered with. The status of Taiwan as part of China has been determined, and the great cause of reunification is inevitable. No matter how Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) schemes to seek "independence" through soliciting external forces, and no matter how external forces may cause trouble and provoke incidents, the historical trend that China will be and must be reunified is unstoppable, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated on Thursday at a press conference.

Chen made the remarks when asked to comment on reports regarding the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) previously claiming that documents such as the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation did not decide Taiwan's final political status, and a US State Department spokesperson and the DPP endorsing AIT's claims.

The spokesperson said that this is merely a farce orchestrated by the DPP authorities, who manipulated specific media outlets and colluded with certain US institutions to distort history and promote the fallacy of an "undetermined" status of Taiwan island, in a desperate attempt to fabricate historical and legal grounds for their secessionist agenda and create the false perception of so-called "international support.

"This self-deceiving and clumsy trick is doomed to fail and will absolutely not succeed," said Chen.

Chen noted that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, a status unequivocally grounded in clear historical and legal context. A series of internationally legally binding documents, including the Cairo Declaration in 1943, the Potsdam Proclamation and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender in 1945, all clearly confirm China's sovereignty over Taiwan island.

The return of Taiwan to China is an important part of the victory in World War II and the post-war international order, the spokesperson said.

As a signatory to the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, the US is fully aware of the historical and legal facts that Taiwan is part of China. Yet, it has blatantly peddled the fallacy that the status of Taiwan has yet to be determined, smeared and discredited China's justified actions to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, misled international public opinion with ill intentions, and gravely violated international law and the basic norms of international relations, sending a wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces, Chen stated.

"We strongly deplore and firmly oppose this," said Chen. "China urges the US to strictly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, to cease manipulating the Taiwan question, to stop emboldening or supporting 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces in any form, and to desist from interfering in China's internal affairs," he said.
