Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, commented Wednesday an inquiry concerning the reported Japan visit by former Taiwan regional leader Tsai Ing-wen in her own private capacity, saying that "we firmly oppose countries with which we have diplomatic relations providing a stage for 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces."

Japan bears historical responsibility toward the Chinese people on the Taiwan question and should deeply reflect on history, adhere to the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and handle Taiwan question with utmost caution, Chen said.

He also warned the DPP authorities and "Taiwan independence" separatist forces that no matter how they change their tactics to "rely on foreign forces to seek independence," they will ultimately end in failure.
