A residential community in Shenyang, North China's Liaoning Province recently drew attention online for a mysterious "puppy button" on the bottom of its elevator control panel. A video footage posted on social media by the netizen revealed that this button is designed for indicating there are puppies or other pets riding inside of the operating elevator to notify individuals who are waiting for the ride, reported by Jimu News.

The video showed a "puppy button" and "puppy inside" indicator light on the elevator's hall call panel. When the button inside the elevator is pressed, the corresponding button and indicator light up immediately.

"This is a very user-friendly feature for pet owners and other residents," a local resident said in the video. Online comments noted that people with pet allergies, families with young children, or those who prefer not to ride with pets can see the "puppy inside" indicator and opt for another.

In response to local media's inquiry, a strata council staff member said that all elevators in this 21-condo complex are equipped with this feature, a customized design by the property developer to foster a pet-friendly living environment, as reported by local media.

The manufacturer of the elevator noted that newer models include more advanced features like voice prompts and camera recognition, which can detect a leashed pet entering and automatically extend the elevator door-closing time for added safety and convenience.
