The ITTF-ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships opened in in Bhubaneswar, India, on Saturday. After the Chinese delegation noticed a pseudo-flag of China's Taiwan region was displayed at the venue, they promptly raised the issue with the event organizers. The organizers removed the flag the same day, the Chinese embassy in India said.
The one-China Principle is a basic norm in international relations and a widely recognized consensus in the international community, the embassy noted. We firmly oppose any attempt by the DPP authorities to manipulate sports events for political purposes or engage in independence provocations, the embassy said.
Such actions seriously undermine the integrity of sporting competitions, disrupt the order and atmosphere of the games, are morally reprehensible, and are doomed to fail, the embassy added.
