Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Wednesday that the mainland firmly opposes US companies engaging in so-called military-technical cooperation with the Taiwan region. He said such actions, which take place despite strong opposition from the Chinese side, severely undermine China's sovereignty, security and development interests, and that the companies involved will be held legally accountable. These remarks were made in response to the mainland's recent addition of three US companies involved in arms sales to Taiwan region to its unreliable entity list.

The Taiwan question concerns the national sentiments of over 1.4 billion Chinese people, represents the core of China's core interests, and is the first inviolable red line in China-US relations. Anyone or any organization that plays with fire on the Taiwan question, including those participating in "arming Taiwan," will not escape unscathed and will inevitably pay a heavy price, Chen said.
