In the face of US economic bullying, Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have been compromising and yielding without principle, fawning over and ingratiating themselves to the US, which has caused the island's industries and people to suffer greatly, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday at a press briefing.

The comment was made in response to a question about the US side' claim, which urges the island of Taiwan to fulfill its commitment to increase purchases of various US agricultural products by 30 percent over the next four years and to secure new sales.

"Taiwan's agricultural products are very abundant. Massive purchases of US agricultural products will only turn the island into a dumping ground for US agricultural goods, directly impacting the prices and sales of local agricultural products," Chen said, stressing that this will harm the development rights and interests of agriculture and fisheries industries in the island, and seriously affect the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen.

More and more facts are making the residents of Taiwan see clearly that the US always adheres to "America First" and cares only about "American interests," Chen noted. "In the eyes of Americans, Taiwan's true value is just 'fat meat and an ATM,' a tool and pawn in its delusional attempt to contain the Chinese mainland," Chen said.
