The recent remarks by US official once again exposed US' consistent adherence to "America First," the absurdity of the Taiwan island authorities' claim that "the relations between the US and the island at their best in history," and the tragedy that concessions will only invite relentless US pressure and exploitation, said Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a regular press conference on Wednesday, when commenting on US' proposal of "50-50" split in semiconductor production with Taiwan.

The semiconductor industry - a core competitive sector in the island - has now become a "vulnerable industry" exploited by US interests. The root cause lies in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' unprincipled appeasement of the US and selling out the island without any bottom line in a bid to try to achieve "Taiwan independence" by seeking foreign support, Chen said.

Taiwan's advantageous industries should have been "poised and composed, handling challenges with effortless ease," but now they find themselves "panicked and scrambling, dragged through the mud in disarray,'" said the spokesperson.
