The first batch of exhibition materials for the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE) sent from Peru's Chancay Port was successfully unloaded from a container vessel at Shanghai's Yangshan Port on Wednesday, state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing Shanghai border inspection authorities.
The goods were processed through a "green channel" for customs clearance of CIIE exhibits, facilitating safe and timely entry of exhibition-use materials.
The 8th edition of the CIIE will be held in Shanghai from November 5 to November 10, reaffirming China's pledge to further opening up and sharing its development opportunities with the world.
The distinctive collection of exhibits, shipped across the Pacific Ocean, includes local South American specialties such as ceramic products and alpaca wool handicrafts, according to CCTV News.
Many of the items will be making their debut at the CIIE, injecting the mega event with vitality from South America and offering Chinese consumers broader choices.
As a key project under the China-Peru Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation, the direct "Chancay-Shanghai" shipping route has established a "maritime fast track" for transporting CIIE exhibits, opening up a more efficient logistics channel for trade between Peru and China.
Since its inauguration in November 2024, exports of Chinese-made home appliances, automobiles, machinery, and small industrial goods to South America have continued to grow, becoming a significant driver of regional economic growth.
Simultaneously, Peruvian specialty agricultural products such as blueberries and avocados are being shipped to the Chinese and Asian markets through the port - the first smart and green port in South America.
According to statistics, since Chancay Port's opening, Shanghai border inspection authorities have inspected a total of more than 240 international vessels traveling between Chancay and Shanghai.
As the world's first national-level exhibition dedicated to imports, the CIIE has showcased approximately 3,000 new products, technologies and services over the past seven years, with intended transactions exceeding $500 billion, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
