On Wednesday morning, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference, which was presided over by the newly appointed spokesperson Peng Qing'en, making his first public appearance in the role.

"In this new role, I will strive to provide timely, accurate, and comprehensive updates on our policies and initiatives related to Taiwan island, enhance communication and exchanges with you, and work together to deepen mutual understanding and trust between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits," Peng said at the press conference. 

While introducing Peng at the Wednesday press conference, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, noted that Peng has assumed the position of head of the economic affairs bureau under the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
