China remains firmly on track to achieve its goal of landing astronauts on the moon before 2030, with overall progress advancing smoothly, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) on Thursday.
Significant progress has been made in the research and development of key systems for the manned lunar mission. The Long March-10 carrier rocket, Mengzhou manned spacecraft, Lanyue lunar lander, Wangyu moon-landing spacesuit, and Tansuo manned lunar rover have all completed major tasks in their initial prototype phase, a spokesperson for CMSA said at a Thursday press conference.
The scientific research and application system has finalized the payload design schemes for each flight mission, while the launch site, tracking and communication, and landing site systems are all accelerating their construction and testing, according to the spokesperson.
As for the specific timeline, China remains unwavering in its goal of realizing a manned lunar landing before 2030. The spokesperson noted that many new technologies still need to be verified, and the workload for product development is heavy, with stringent quality requirements, tight schedules, and closely linked flight tests—all presenting significant challenges and risks.
He added that the entire project team will continue to carry forward the spirit of the "two bombs, one satellite" initiative and China's manned spaceflight program—upholding scientific planning, unity, and perseverance—to ensure the successful completion of all development tasks and lay a solid foundation for achieving the goal of a manned lunar landing on schedule.
