The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee Ka-chiu will lead a Hong Kong SAR government delegation to Shanghai on November 4 to attend the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), according to the SAR government website on Monday.
Lee described the CIIE as a globally significant event that provides vast business opportunities for Hong Kong enterprises.
The 8th CIIE will be held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, with participation from 155 countries, regions, and international organizations. A total of 4,108 overseas enterprises will take part in the event, and the exhibition area will exceed 430,000 square meters — a new record, data from the People's Daily showed.
Lee will attend the opening ceremony of the 8th CIIE and the 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum, and visit the Hong Kong exhibition area to express support for Hong Kong businesses.
Hong Kong has been an active participant and strong supporter of the CIIE. In addition to senior government officials attending the expo, more than 350 Hong Kong enterprises from a wide range of industries will take part this year — the highest number on record — underscoring that Hong Kong companies see the CIIE as a vital platform to expand into the mainland market and showcase the city's brand and innovation strength, according to Lee.
In addition, Lee will officiate at a promotion conference on Hong Kong as an ideal platform for the mainland-based enterprises going global, organized by the Hong Kong SAR government.
The event marks the first large-scale mainland promotion campaign led by the SAR government's newly established task force dedicated to supporting mainland enterprises in going global. It will bring together speakers from diverse sectors to highlight Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international platform for mainland companies expanding overseas.
