A nightclub in Shanghai, in a partnership with the Huangpu District Civil Affairs Bureau, has become the talk of the town by planning to host wedding vow ceremonies. However, the bureau has clarified that prior legal registration at its office is still mandatory, according to multiple Chinese media reports.
Shanghai-based The Paper reported on October 4 that the initiative, a collaboration project between Huangpu District's civil affairs bureau and INS New Paradise, an entertainment complex in Fuxing Park, will be available on four evenings in mid-to-late November. The topic "Shanghai nightclub offers on-site marriage registration" quickly trended on social media platform Weibo, drawing widespread public curiosity and debate too.
However, a staff member from the marriage registration office of Huangpu District clarified to Shaanxi-based Xiangyang Video that while the ceremonial event takes place at the nightclub, the legal registration must still be completed in advance at the official bureau during business hours. The nightclub serves only as a novel venue for the subsequent vow ceremony.
The experience includes a dedicated concierge for couples and a potential perk: tickets to Tomorrow-land, the world-renowned electronic music festival also taking place in Huangpu. Reservations opened on November 3 via official channels, with limited spots available, The Paper reported.
