In response to media inquiry over Japanese government's announcement that its seafood exports to China have resumed for the first time since China imposed a ban over the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water two years ago, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China will continue international monitoring and independent sampling of the discharge of the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water. 

China had previously issued a notice regarding the import of Japanese seafood into China, Mao said. "We hope Japan will continue its international monitoring and independent sampling of the contaminated water, and we will continue to work with the international community to urge Japan to fulfill its commitments."

Mao added that the relevant Chinese authorities will continue to strictly abide by laws and regulations, strengthen supervision of the import of Japanese seafood into China, and safeguard the food safety of the people. If any risks are discovered, necessary import restriction measures will be immediately taken in accordance with the law.
