In response to Japan’s recent announcement to deploy missiles in a sensitive area merely 110 kilometers from the island of Taiwan, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Peng Qing’en stated Wednesday that Japan’s deployment of offensive weapons in areas adjacent to China’s Taiwan, deliberately creating regional tensions and provoking military confrontation, is an extremely dangerous move. The Potsdam Proclamation explicitly prohibits Japan from “rearming,” and Japan’s “pacifist constitution” also establishes the principle of an “exclusively defense-oriented policy,” Peng said.
The spokesperson said it is alarming to the international community that Japanese right-wing forces are vigorously breaking free from the constraints of the constitution, going further down the path of militarism and leading Japan and the region toward disaster.
The spokesperson stated that Taiwan is China’s Taiwan. We will never allow external forces to interfere in the Taiwan region of China, nor will we ever allow the resurgence of Japanese militarism, said the spokesperson.
