Feng Fei, Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, met on Monday in Sanya with James Cameron, director of the film Avatar 3, and his delegation, who were attending the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival, reported the Hainan Daily.
Feng Fei extended a welcome to James Cameron and his team, thanking them for holding the Chinese premiere of Avatar 3 in Sanya.
Feng stated that the island-wide independent customs operation of the Hainan Free Trade Port is imminent, and the policy and institutional system of the Free Trade Port ((FTP), characterized by “zero tariffs, low tax rates,” and the free and convenient flow of trade, investment, cross-border capital, people, and transport, along with the safe and orderly flow of data, have been basically established, making Hainan one of the most open markets in the Chinese mainland.
This is conducive to strengthening international economic and trade cooperation and promoting international cultural exchanges. Hainan will leverage the open policy advantages of the Free Trade Port and take the Hainan Island International Film Festival as an important platform to deepen cooperation with outstanding filmmakers worldwide and contribute to the high-level opening-up of Chinese film industry, Feng noted.
According to the Hainan Daily report, James Cameron expressed that China is the world's largest film market, and its film industry is developing rapidly. The opening-up policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port help expand international cultural and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. The Hainan Island International Film Festival provides an important platform for showcasing and exchanging numerous excellent films from around the world. He looked forward to using his participation in the film festival in Hainan as an opportunity to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese film industry through the universal language of film art, fostering more cultural resonance internationally.
Director James Cameron, lead actress Zoe Saldaña and Chinese dubbing stars including Zhang Ziyi, Huang Xuan, Deng Chao and Sun Li had a dialogue on Monday before the Chinese premiere of the much-anticipated sci-fi epic Avatar 3.
The film is scheduled for simultaneous release in the Chinese mainland and North America on December 19.
