Responding to a foreign media reporter's question about the Jimmy Lai case, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday that safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests is the highest principle of "One Country, Two Systems."

The central government firmly supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in upholding national security in accordance with the law and punishing acts that endanger national security, Guo said.
