Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Monday local time emphasized that Taiwan region is the territory of the China, reaffirming that Serbia fully supports the one-China principle and backs the People’s Republic of China, China Media Group (CMG) reported on Tuesday.

Vucic made the remarks during an inspection of the Chinese-built Danube Corridor.

During the visit, he met with Chinese and Serbian construction workers and expressed his appreciation to the Chinese leader, Chinese companies and project builders, CMG’s report said.

Vucic said that Serbia’s goal is to safeguard world peace and stability, uphold the Charter of the United Nations, respect international law, and adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which he said are equally important.

“I fully support the People’s Republic of China and its efforts to safeguard territorial integrity and uphold the one-China principle. Serbia supports the one-China principle with its full political strength. Taiwan region is the territory of the People’s Republic of China — that is how we see it. This has been, and will continue to be, Serbia’s policy,” he said, according to CMG’s Tuesday video.

He also called the expressway "a major boost" for the region. Vucic said the new road would help attract investment, stimulate tourism, and help increase the appeal of the less developed region, according to Xinhua News Agency’s Tuesday report.

"It is a strong invitation for people to come back. A good number of people are already returning," he noted, said Xinhua.

Vucic also expressed his support for the one-China principle during a visit to Niš, Serbia’s third-largest city, in mid-December.

He said on December 12 that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair and that how it is resolved should be entirely decided by China itself, which is China's sovereign right. Serbia, he said, firmly and unwaveringly supports the one-China principle.

Vucic made the remarks during his inspection in a Chinese-invested auto parts manufacturing enterprise. He held discussions with company representatives and toured the production workshops, accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarovic, and Mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic, among others.
