Venezuela on Monday issued a statement, rejecting the announcement by the US to carry out large scale arms sales to the island of Taiwan, reaffirming its unwavering adherence to the one-China principle and recognizing that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry posted the statement on Monday, stating that Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, faithful to the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law, firmly and categorically rejects the dangerous announcement by the US government to carry out large scale arms sales to the island of Taiwan.

The statement said, this unilateral action constitutes a serious interference in the internal affairs of China and a flagrant violation of the international commitments assumed by Washington. Such action directly undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, undermines strategic stability and represents a blatant threat that jeopardizes peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region.

The statement continued as saying that Venezuela expresses its solidarity and fraternal support to the Chinese people and government. Sooner rather than later, Taiwan will be reunited with the People's Republic of China, despite the irresponsible actions of third parties, according to the statement.

According to media reports, on December 18, the US announced arms sales to China's Taiwan region worth up to $11.1 billion, marking the largest package of its kind in history.

In response to the latest US announcement of large-scale arms sales to China’s Taiwan region, China has decided to take countermeasures in accordance with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Countering Foreign Sanctions against 20 US military-related companies and 10 senior executives who have engaged in arming Taiwan in recent years, according to a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on December 26.

“We stress once again that the Taiwan question is at the very core of China’s core interests and the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations. Anyone who attempts to cross the line and make provocations on the Taiwan question will be met with China’s firm response.,” said the Chinese spokesperson.

According to the spokesperson, China once again urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, act on the commitment of the US leader, stop the dangerous moves of arming Taiwan, stop undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, and stop sending wrong signals to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. China will continue to take resolute measures to firmly defend national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
