Following Nestlé's recall of several batches of infant formula in multiple European countries, the Chinese market has also initiated a recall of specific batches of infant and toddler formula milk powder.
Nestlé has taken precautionary recall measures for certain infant formula products in some European countries. A representative from Nestlé China told the Global Times on Wednesday that as a small number of products in the Chinese market may be affected, the company has recalled specific batches of infant formula milk powder as a precautionary step.
So far, no illness has been confirmed in connection with the products involved, and all Nestlé special medical-purpose infant formula products, as well as brands such as NAN HA, Illuma, and S26 Ultima registered and sold in the Chinese mainland market, are unaffected, the representative said.
On Tuesday, Nestlé China's official website released an announcement, disclosing the product batches subject to recall, involving multiple batches of products such as Lactogen, BOCHU NAN, etc., as well as certain batches of infant formula milk powder imported from Europe and sold through cross-border e-commerce channels in Chinese mainland. All other Nestlé products and other batches of the same products outside the scope of this recall are safe for consumption, it said.
Reuters reported on Tuesday that it was recalling some batches of its infant nutrition products, including SMA, BEBA and NAN formulas, mostly in Europe, due to possible contamination with a substance that may cause vomiting.
Following the detection of a quality issue with an ingredient provided by a leading supplier, Nestlé has undertaken testing of all arachidonic acid (ARA) oil and corresponding oil mixes used in the production of its potentially affected infant nutrition products, according to the official website of Nestlé.
