The China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation will hold its 6th meeting in Beijing during Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's visit to China, to further boost cooperation between Chinese and Finish businesses, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

Orpo will pay an official visit to China from January 25 to 28, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry had announced.

During the visit, China and Finland are expected to hold various high-level meetings, including business exchanges, and ink a slew of deals, according to Chinese officials.

"China attaches great importance to economic and trade cooperation with Finland and is actively preparing for the sixth meeting of China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation, providing a good opportunity for enterprises from both sides to conduct dialogue and exchanges and jointly explore cooperative development," a MOFCOM spokesperson said.

The spokesperson noted that enterprises from both China and Finland are very enthusiastic for participating in the meeting, with approximately 50 company representatives already registered to attend.

Notably, the MOFCOM will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Finnish side on strengthening the work of the China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation, and companies from both sides will also sign several business cooperation agreements, according to the spokesperson.

"All of this fully demonstrates that China and Finland have the will, confidence, and ability to promote the continued positive development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation," the spokesperson said.

According to a press release issued by the Finish Government, Orpo will deliver an address at the meeting of the China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation.  Representatives from many Finish companies, including Aurealis Therapeutics, Finnair Plc, and Finnish Minerals Group, will take part in the meeting, per the press release.

The China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation was established in June 2017 in accordance with a joint statement signed by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland. The committee aims to strengthen regular dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in the economic sector, promote innovation cooperation between Chinese and Finnish enterprises, explore new ways and approaches for innovation cooperation between the two countries, make policy recommendations on deepening innovation cooperation in the fields of science and technology and trade, and build an exchange platform for enterprises of the two countries to carry out innovation cooperation, according to the MOFCOM.

The 5th meeting of the China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation was held on October 29, 2024.

"Looking to the future, China and Finland have complementary strengths in areas such as green development and innovation, and the potential for cooperation is enormous. We welcome enterprises from both sides to seize the new opportunities brought about by China's unwavering commitment to high-level opening-up and further deepen cooperation in areas such as green transformation, information technology, and the digital economy," the MOFCOM spokesperson said.

In 2025, bilateral trade between China and Finland exceeded $8 billion, and the stock of two-way investment surpassed $23 billion. Enterprises from both countries continue to show great enthusiasm for strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, according to the MOFCOM.
