The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have turned TSMC into a tool to curry favor with and pledge loyalty to the US and Japan, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, told a press briefing on Wednesday when asked to comment on reports that TSMC plans to begin mass production of 3-nanometer chips in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. If carried out, the plan would mark the first time a factory in Japan produces chips using the 3-nanometer process.

"What the DPP authorities are seeking is their own political self-interest; what they are harming is the future of Taiwan's industries; and what they are undermining is the well-being of the broad Taiwan public," Zhu said.
