A video clip published by the website of China Central Television (CCTV), which has been widely shared online, unveiled how Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Type 054A guided-missile frigate Honghe (Hull 523), with its main gun loaded, drove away a foreign warship after 20 hours of standoff.
In the clip from a documentary the CCTV released on Wednesday, the Honghe was deployed emergently after a foreign vessel attempted to "forcefully transit in the Strait." The foreign vessel was larger in tonnage and the two vessels were only one to two hundred meters away from each other at the closest, according to CCTV.
"The foreign vessel maneuvered to cut us off at a high speed, but we never back down on our own doorstep," a crew member of the Honghe is heard as saying in the CCTV video clip.
"We carried out emergency loading of munitions as we sailed; fire could be unleashed at any moment with a single trigger press," he said.
The standoff lasted more than 20 hours and the foreign vessel left after finding there is no gap for them to exploit, according to the CCTV video.
