In response to a question regarding the so-called reciprocal trade agreement between China's Taiwan region and the US under which Taiwan has lowered inspection and quarantine standards for US potato imports - allowing sprouted potatoes to be shipped to the island and sparking public concerns and panic over food safety there - Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that in the face of economic bullying and product dumping by the US under the guise of the agreement, the DPP authorities have acted against the will of the people in Taiwan and stubbornly pressed ahead, blatantly abandoning the bottom line of food safety and once again sacrificing the people’s health as a "ticket of allegiance" to curry favor with the US.
