
The Top Employers Institute certified 41 Chinese employers with the prestigious Top Employer Certification at the Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai on January 15.
The Top Employers Institute's latest Top Employer research has revealed that most of the China's leading employers are prioritizing their HR focuses to talent management, leadership development and employee engagement in 2014.
The three HR priorities identified last year were employee engagement, employee retention and transforming HR into a strategic partner.The shift in HR priorities is rooted in HR's increasing strategic position and achievements in employee retention in recent years. This way HR can allocate more effort to employee development.
The research covers five certification dimensions: Primary benefits, secondary benefits, training and development, career development and culture management.
The five top performance indicators for China for the past 12 months are as follows:
1. Staff turnover has decreased from 20.1 percent to 17.4 percent. 2. Absenteeism has decreased from 1.8 percent to 1.6 percent. 3. Internal candidates seeking promotion fill more internal slots, slightly down from 72.6 percent to 72.0 percent. 4. The minimum days of training for all employees averages at 4 days. 5. The percentage of women employed in top positions has increased from 29.7 percent to 31.0 percent.
Moreover, following the European and African regions, the Top Employers Asia Pacific 2014 certification is available in the Asia Pacific region this year. Participating companies in the Top Employers research must meet requirements in at least five countries in the region in order to achieve the regional Asia Pacific certification. Three employers - SABIC, Technip and Valeo - were successfully awarded Top Employers Asia Pacific certification.
General training, talent management and leadership development are listed as the most adopted development programs both in China and Asia Pacific research. Flexible working conditions are an important contributor to employee satisfaction.
The research focuses on HR policies that highlight what employers do to assist with career development, whether salaries are competitive, how strategies and policies are communicated, eligibility for a company car and annual leave.
The Top Employers Institute researches policies regarding flexible working arrangements, and how organizations invest in employee knowledge and experience. It is through these policies that drive the differences in employment conditions and shape employee experiences.
