Beijing Auto still has chance to invest in Opel

The German government said Wednesday it was still open to other bidders, including Beijing Automotive Industry Corp and Italy's Fiat, while Canada's Magna and General Motors has reached a preliminary agreement.

"The process is still open to all candidates," German government spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said.

Bloomberg reports said that Beijing Auto executives held talks with German officials in Berlin on Tuesday.

Fiat said May 29 it still wanted to acquire GM's European division.

Magna co-chief executive Siegfried Wolf said on Wednesday that Magna is expected to complete the deal with GM by September.
