Ford's SUV Edge to star soon

Ford Motor Company has announced plans to launch its first SUV since it entered the Chinese market seven years ago, said He Junjie, vice president of Ford China Wednesday in Chengdu.

The Edge, a medium-sized SUV with three categories of engines: 2.0T EcoBoost, 3.5L and 3.7L, is to debut in October and prices will range from $27,220 to $38,070 in the United States, while in China the price may be 30 percent higher than in the US.

From 2004 to 2009, SUVs sold in China increased from 160,000 units to 750,000 units. And in the first half of 2010, 587,000 SUVs were sold in China with an increase of 133 percent on a year-on-year base.
