Honda Motor Co. is recalling more than 18,000 2011 Civic models to fix a potential fuel leak, according to a Thursday report on the website of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The company said the recall of 18,056 vehicles is to inspect and replace a part that could fail to prevent fuel from leaking out of the fuel tank and into the evaporative emissions canister in a rollover, increasing the risk of fire.

Honda announced that dealer will inspect the fuel pump module and replace the module free of charge if necessary. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before April 11, 2011. The sale of some civic vehicles was halted on Monday due to unrepaired vehicles on dealer lots.

And the company predicted a mere 1 percent of all 2011 models are likely to be affected, but it will recall a wide range of vehicles.
