New Hongqi

The FAW Group Corp. will invest more money into the production of new vehicles, and the expansion programs for Besturn and Hongqi are on the agenda, according to the company.

A brand new Hongqi will be released in 2012. Besides the high-end market, the company will launch a less expensive edition to boost sales at the same time. A sketch of a new Hongqi was recently revealed.

There were reports in 2007 that Hongqi would launch its second luxury vehicle named C601 in 2009, but later the plan was scrapped.

A Hongqi concept SUV was on display in the Shanghai Auto Show, but whether it will be in mass-production or not still remains undecided.

A well-informed source says it depends on the sales and the public's reaction to the vehicle.
