Dongfeng Motor moves into high gear

On June 26, Dong Feng passenger vehicle engine plant, with annual capacity of 300 thousand sets, went into construction in Wuhan factory of Dong Feng Motor Corporation Passenger Vehicle Company (DFPV).
For Dong Feng, after the said plant is built completely and fully put into operation, Dong Feng self-owned brand engine will achieve great-leap-forward development from commercial vehicle filed to passenger car filed, which will enhance core competence of Dong Feng in independent innovation and development.
To reinforce the research and development of engine technology and other automobile core technologies has been an important content for China's self-owned brand automakers to strive for sustainable development.
According to the improved market shares of self-owned brands in recent years, it can be found that with the continuous breakthroughs of self-owned brand automakers in engine technology and other core technology fields, such self-owned brands have made great progress in market competitiveness and brand image, and also obtained more recognition from consumers.
Dong Feng Company, developing self-owned brand passenger vehicles three years ago, currently, has successfully released several products such as Dong Feng Aeolus S30 and H30. However, the sale of existing products of Dong Feng passenger vehicles and long-term development of self-owned models are affected more or less by the shortage of independent engine.
Actually, DFPV has begun to plan its self-owned engine since five years ago. Dong Feng motor company has reserved space for the passenger vehicle engine plant when it planned the passenger vehicle program.
Zheng Chunkai, principal of preparatory group of Dong Feng passenger vehicle engine project, expressed that since the engine ignition's success of Dong Feng passenger vehicle in October 2008, after more than one year of investigation and research, the industrialization program of engine has been formed early in this year. It can be said that the engine project of Dong Feng passenger vehicle learns wildly from other's strong points.
It can be found that for the past several years Dong Feng has been propelling the self-owned brand engine program of passenger vehicle in a down-to-earth manner. Presently, in engine technology, Dong Feng has had two kinds of engines: series 1.6 of platform A and series 2.0 of platform B.
In accordance with the plan, it is predicted that the said engine plant is going to be completed in the second half of 2011. After the first phrase project to be finished, the following points will be achieved preliminarily: two series of 1.6L and 2.0L, production capacity of 60 thousand sets of self-owned brands engines and further up to 300 thousand sets in the future.
All of these will lay a solid foundation for the accelerated development of sedan project with self-owned brand of Dong Feng.
According to Mr. Zheng, the engine products produced by Dong Feng passenger vehicle engine plant will provide for the whole Dong Feng Group, not excluding the joint venture. Obviously, Dong Feng is very confident for its self-owned brand engine to be put into operation.
It is the consistent principle of Dong Feng to provide reliable products for consumers.
The engine A-16 of Dong Feng platform A is going to be put into operation firstly in the engine plant, and more than 200 of which has passed the performance testing and embarkation experimentation, and both performance index and technical parameter are in the leading level of the world, but these are not the final data. Jiang Guoying, Minister of the engine department of the technology center of Dong Feng Motor Company, said that they would continue to improve the performance of engine and ensure it is advanced even the day when it is produced, since the self-owned brand engine of Dong Feng passenger vehicle is going to be put into operation in one year.
