Imports of vehicles in China double in first 10 months

China imported a record 645,700 vehicles between January and October, up 110 percent year-on-year.

And the total cost of the imported cars climbed by 120 percent to $23.89 billion, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), citing the statistics for imports and exports of automobile products released by the General Administration of Customers of China Monday.

Xu Changming, Senior Economist and Deputy Director of the Information Resource Department and Director of the Economic Consultancy Center of the State Information Consultancy Center, said that more up-market vehicles were imported this year, with the average price for each imported vehicle reaching $37,000.
