Imported vehicles are now expected to grow faster than domestic cars, after vehicle registration rate increased more than 80 percent last year, the Beijing Business Today reported on Tuesday.

As the government fueled efforts on energy conservation and reduction of pollutant emissions, domestic automakers feel more pressure, Chinese cars are less likely to meet the government's standard.

Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) will still bite half of the market this year. As the market demand of luxury vehicles increase, more and more luxury vehicles will be imported to fill the vacancy.

The quality of Chinese cars as well as services of auto companies will also be challenged as the competition in the market intensifies.

According to statistics, 22 models were imported to China from December 2010 to January 2011.
