Carmaker BYD plans to invest 22.5 billion yuan ($3.925 billion) to build a 5,000-megawatt solar cell production line by 2015, according to China Business News (CBN), citing the circular economy in the southern Shaanxi industry development plan (2009-2020) published Thursday on the website of Shaanxi Province Development and Reform Commission.

Xu An, PR manager of BYD told CBN that the solar cells are part of the company's new program for solar energy, but he did not disclose details about the plans of the production line.

Researcher at Xiangcai Securities, Hou Wentao told CBN China's total capacity of photovoltaic cells is currently about 5,000-MW to 6,000-MW, accounting for 40 percent of the world's output.
